Bridging Luxury and Functionality: Crafting Ambiance in Upcycled Aircraft with 3M Dinoc

Sky Pod, known for transforming decommissioned aircraft into high-end glamping havens, offices, and media rooms, faced a unique challenge. They needed to preserve the aircraft’s charm while creating luxurious, practical interiors and exteriors. Adding weight, cost, and waste to their bespoke builds wasn’t an option.

Their solution? A diverse material palette designed to evoke tranquility and opulence. “Adding color and texture has always been a hurdle,” says Mike Hyde of Sky Pod, “but DI-NOC offered beautiful and practical solutions.”

Beyond the Canvas: Transforming the Aircraft Palette

Mike, the mastermind behind Sky Pod, transforms aircraft into stunning, custom spaces. However, the lack of inherent design and color presented a blank canvas. He needed a way to fulfill his clients’ desires for high-end sophistication without compromising the pods’ durability and cleanability.

Enter 3M™ Endorsed Installers, who were able to breathe new life into these unique structures using a diverse range of DI-NOC™ Architectural Finishes. From the aircraft fuselage to the interior, they employed a sophisticated combination of wood, suede, stone, metal, and leather finishes. This not only achieved an air of sophistication but also ensured ease of cleaning, maintenance, and repair.

A Cohesive Experience: Interiors and Exteriors Aligned

By utilizing DI-NOC™ finishes across the entire pod, both inside and out, a consistent design theme was established, creating a harmonious user experience. “The result,” says Mike with satisfaction, “seamlessly blends beauty and practicality, ensuring these aircraft live on for years to come.”
