Beyond the Walls: Designers Embrace Virtual & Physical Spaces, Fueled by 3M DI-NOC

In the absence of the usual furniture fair this year, designers turned instead to virtual and in-person spaces – a playground for new ideas and concepts that extend beyond art, architecture and design to include sustainability and circular economies.

Milan, Italy – In the absence of the traditional Salone del Mobile furniture fair, Milan Design Week 2021 presented a unique landscape of creative exploration. The “Supersalone” event and its accompanying “Fuorisalone” district exhibits provided a platform for designers to showcase groundbreaking ideas that transcended the boundaries of art, architecture, and furniture design. Among the key players driving innovation was 3M, showcasing its versatile 3M DI-NOC™ Architectural Finishes and igniting a spark of curiosity and inspiration.

76 New Designs Fueling the Imagination:

3M arrived at Milan Design Week armed with a staggering 76 new design patterns for its 3M DI-NOC™ Architectural Finishes. This impressive expansion aimed to empower designers and the public alike to push the boundaries of creativity. With these innovative finishes, simple and radical transformations became a reality, enabling the creation of unforgettable experiences and the exploration of entirely new design possibilities.

Immersive Experiences with 3M DI-NOC™:

3M actively participated in various events and special projects across the week, immersing the public in the potential of 3M DI-NOC™ Architectural Finishes. One such highlight was the “La Casa Fluida (Fluid Home)” exhibition-installation, curated by Elisa Ossino Studio and featuring interactive installations by Kokoschka Revival. This project, sponsored by Elle Decor Italia, became a testament to the transformative power of 3M DI-NOC™ finishes.

Fluid Home Embraces Transformation:

“La Casa Fluida” served as a captivating exploration of the evolving domestic space. Architect Elisa Ossino envisioned a home that embraced fluidity, adapting to the ever-changing needs of its inhabitants, particularly after the significant societal shifts brought on by the pandemic. This vision manifested through a seamless blend of functions, blurring traditional boundaries within the home.

Color, Sustainability, and Transformation:

The project celebrated color and its ability to influence the perception and experience of space. Additionally, “La Casa Fluida” prioritized sustainability, reflecting the growing awareness of environmental responsibility. Ossino specifically highlighted the use of 3M DI-NOC™ Architectural Finishes, citing their perfect alignment with the project’s core values:

  • Lightweight and adaptable: These finishes adhered seamlessly to the curved walls, enabling the creation of flexible spaces within the fluid home concept.
  • Sustainable commitment: 3M’s dedication to sustainability throughout its manufacturing processes resonated with the project’s focus on environmental responsibility.

A Catalyst for Change:

Milan Design Week 2021 presented a unique opportunity in the absence of the traditional Salone del Mobile. 3M, through its innovative 3M DI-NOC™ Architectural Finishes, played a pivotal role in fostering creativity, promoting sustainable practices, and inspiring a reimagination of the spaces we inhabit. The event served as a springboard for future design and its potential to reshape our world – one transformative surface at a time.
